Stephen Franson: Hey this is Dr. Stephen Franson coming to you from the house of Dr. Matt Kan in Singapore.
If you don’t know this guy, you should. Matt Kan is the owner of the largest chiropractic group in all of southeast Asia. Matt Kan, you’re an amazing person, I’m excited to share your story with the planet. Why don’t you tell us a little bit about your history, and then we’ll talk about what you’ve got going on today and your eye on the future.
Matt Kan: Hi, I’m Matt Kan, graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. We started growing our clinics in southeast Asia because there’s such a great need for chiropractic here. Started in early 2000, and we grew from a one clinic to a two, to a three, to a five. Right now we have 20 clinics and we have about 31 doctors with us.
And we’re growing. And right now plans to grow within southeast Asia. We’re talking about 10 to 20 clinics in a year. That’s the plan. But when it comes to China, right, which we should be there, we will be there in China in the next two months. We’re looking at X100 kind of mindset. It’s huge.
Stephen Franson: All right. So let’s talk about that a little bit. So you’ve been incredibly successful with what you’ve been doing in Singapore, spreading into Malaysia and Indonesia, and now as we embark into China, it’s a totally different ballgame. And I think if you’re viewing this in the States, you can’t quite appreciate what you’re talking about, when you’re talking about opportunity.
And just the sheer volume of people, and therefore need for great chiropractic care. How many people we talking about?
Matt Kan: Talking about above one billion people in China, and about seven hundred million in Indonesia. So that itself is huge, and how many chiropractors are there? Can’t be more than five or six. Easily less than 10, right. So it’s this huge, huge, huge opportunity, right, a huge gap.
And we’ve created a platform that will help us to grow, we have created a [CF academy] where we train, right, our doctors, very systematically. Principled approach. We have CF academy, and we have a management team and we have technologists to help us to manage, institutionalize our system in such a way that we put professionals into helping our team and chiropractors to be the best chiropractors in the world.
Stephen Franson: So what’s been amazing to me is, you are that true, four-legged stool. In chiropractic, we talk a lot about the art, the science and the philosophy of chiropractic, and you know, the old expression was to be a great chiropractor, you have to have a strong, three-legged stool. And we both know, that in the modern age, it actually has to be a four-legged stool. And the fourth leg is business acumen.
And I mean, I’m just so impressed with you as a chiropractor, we’re talking about a principled guy here that’s doing real subluxation-based, corrective care with a real heart for families and shifting the culture of a family’s home so that they live the chiropractic lifestyle. I just love that vision.
But beyond that, you have taken your business background and just really infused it into actually the DNA of chiropractic first. Just so impressed the way everything is so systematized, and the mechanisms that are built in to ensure proper education and really, beyond just informational but transformational experiences for these families.
So I’m encouraged. If we’re going to put the future of chiropractic or the responsibility of shaping the future of chiropractic in anybody’s hands, I can tell you, we got the right man to do it.
So how can we help you, Matt? What’s the story? What do you need? You’re talking to the chiropractic world out here. What do you need?
Matt Kan: I need chiropractors. I need good, passionate and principled subluxation-based chiropractors who is not afraid to go to the world and change the world. Right. We will equip you, we will teach you, we will train you, we will provide you with a system, the process, the procedure, and the management and the people around you to support you, to make you very successful.
All I need is your heart, your passion, right, to come and join us, we need principled chiropractors. And not just, I’m not talking about 10, 20, we’re talking about in hundreds.
Stephen Franson: Hundreds. Hundreds of chiropractors. And you know, I’ve watched you bring 10 and 20 chiropractors to this region, and this isn’t just a good idea, you’re actually doing this. And watching you execute it is just incredible. So you know, the clinics get open, there’s a staff that’s trained up and fully equipped to serve the community, there’s an amazing demand and need.
To watch you guys do a [inaudible] or a spinal screening over a weekend and generate 125 new patients, and then watch those patients get matriculated into the chiropractic lifestyle through just an absolute principled machine, if I can use the term machine, the machine that is really just creating a subluxation-based understanding of chiropractic care, with an eye on retention and long-term chiropractic care.
Three generations of a family, kids all over the place [inaudible], and man, I can’t say enough, I’m just so impressed. I’m honored to be your friend and I’m honored to be working in the organization with you, alongside you and just excited to see what you’re going to create.
Matt Kan: Thank you.
